Compassion – Are You About My Fathers Business?

July 11, 2017

compassionAre you about My Fathers business? That was the question press upon me as I awoke that morning. My response was typical “of course Lord you know I am about your business”. This question reminded me of the time a young compassionate Jesus staying behind in Jerusalem with His parents frankly looking for Him asked the same of them. Young Jesus story So I started my day as I usually do. First before doing battle I must first put on my armor. So I go through Ephesians 6: 13-17

Now that I feel that I am ready to do battle and feel protect from evil I’m ready to face whatever He has for me for that day. I then do my morning prays, but that is not what happened He said read the rest of Ephesians 6. So I did. Then He asked me several pointed questions. “Is your country at war within your continent, and are you not provided for?” My reply: “Well there is no actual war inside my country, that I have to be leary of stepping outside my house and get my head blown off. And yes, Lord you have provided more than I ever dreamed.” “So why are you not lifting up those who have prayed, and begged for some relief from war torn areas, who have nothing”.

COMPASSION flies out the window

At times when I’m watching T.V. news and they show war areas, and people leaving in droves for their lives, I lose my compassion. Is it that the news show to much of what is going on in the world or I have lost my caring for others needs. Maybe it’s both. There is allot of scripture on this subject but this one puts it into perspective: 1 John 3:17 17 If anyone has this world’s goods and sees his brother in need but closes his eyes to his need—how can God’s love reside in him? WOW!!! Does this mean I have lost the Spirit within me? or does this mean I have been desensitized to my world view? This made me think about how I perceive others in their situations. Believe me I have enough on my plate that taking on more was not my thought that day. So I made a decision to start praying for those that I looked the other way or figured God was going to send some one or thing to them to bring relief. If not I, then who was going to pray for these people? I asked.

My favorite verse in the Bible is not what most would choose. I see Jesus saying with tears in his eyes and with so much compassion in His voice. For He so wanted them to believe that He was the true Messiah.

Matthew 23:37 [Full Chapter] O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

Did my compassion fly out of me or can it be restored? I’m thinking positively that the Lord will restore my compassion for others. How about you? Do you feel over whelmed by the media or people around you that you too can not find the compassion within?

The pastor of Chapel of the South Fork, Larry Toller, brought this movie to mind Sunday morning. I had see it many years ago and found it amazing how God works in and through others to bring about His purpose.

Jim Elliot

End of the Spear

This  true story of  five young missionaries, among the Jim Elliot and Nate Smith, were speared to death by the Waodani in 1956, a series of miraculous events unfolds that changes the lives of the martyr’s families and eat Ecuadorian tribe they were attempting to lead to Christ.

There is a movie about this called “End of the Spear.”

Jim Elliot once asked the question: Am I Dangerous? He said:

“We are all sidelines, coaching and criticizing the real wrestler while content to set by and leave the enemies of God unchallenged.

We are spiritual pacifist, conscientious objectors in the battle-to-the-death, with principalities and powers in the heavenly places.

The world cannot hate us; we are to much like its own.

Oh that God would make us dangerous.”

Am I Dangerous? What a question! I’m a soldier of the Lords, but am I dangerous? Have I prayed for all those who have stopped praying because they feel no one cares, or their prayers are not that important to God. What about you “ARE YOU DANGEROUS?”and “ARE YOU ABOUT THE FATHERS BUSINESS?”
